Robotic Filing & Deburring Cell
Project overview
Our client came to Akeratos in 2024 with a familiar challenge: a manual finishing operation — filing and deburring plastic discs — that consumed skilled labor on repetitive, ergonomically taxing work where consistency matters part after part.
Akeratos delivered a robotic cell built around a Universal Robots UR5e collaborative robot to automate the pocket expansion process. The robot handles the filing and deburring sequence with the same motion, pressure and path every cycle — removing the part-to-part variation that comes with manual finishing and freeing operators for work that actually needs their judgment.
Finishing operations like deburring are often the last thing manufacturers think to automate, but they’re frequently the best candidates: repetitive, well-defined and quietly expensive. This cell is a case study in exactly that.
